Designing A Kitchen With An 8' Floor To Ceiling

You can either use 36" tall upper cabinets, which allow for crown molding along the top, or 42" tall upper cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling without any crown molding. Cabinets won't go all the way to the ceiling, giving you the option of adding moldings. If you select a smaller profile crown molding, there will be a small amount of space above the cabinetry. If you'd rather not bother, adding a riser and wider profile crown molding will eliminate the gap and give the illusion of the cabinetry going all the way to the ceiling. Here is the same kitchen with riser molding added below the crown molding, which brings the cabinets up to the ceiling. Use of 42" high upper cabinets

Some people focus entirely on having as much kitchen storage as possible and selecting 42" upper cabinets will definitely give you more space. Chances are your ceiling is not completely flush in all places so additional work may be required to make the tops more even. With taller upper cabinets you also lose the ability to use decorative moldings. If you want the slightest decorative molding you will have to lower a little cabinets, which is not ideal.

If you're planning a floor-to-ceiling pantry in your kitchen and have decided to use 42" upper cabinets in the space, the coordinating tall cabinet is 96" high. Also, if you decide to lower the height of the backsplash to include a small ¾" molding, that's even more space you need to try to deduct from the cabinet height to make everything fit Even if you've sacrificed the decorative molding for more space, this cabinet alone should be considered.

The Benefits Of Floor To Ceiling Cabinets

Say hello to storage space

In addition to acting as a bold focal point in your kitchen, cabinets that reach to the ceiling also add substantial storage space to the room. If there are kitchen appliances on the wall where you plan to add floor-to-ceiling cabinets, you can integrate them into your cabinet layout, leaving room for your refrigerator, stove, washing machine, etc. dishes and any other appliances you may have. Alternatives to Floor-to-Ceiling Cabinets

While floor-to-ceiling cabinets can be a great choice, they may not be ideal for all spaces. While having a small kitchen doesn't automatically make floor-to-ceiling cabinetry the wrong choice, it's something to keep in mind when choosing cabinetry for your home. Cabinets that go all the way up to the ceiling are impressive and provide a welcome framing effect for a kitchen. If you extend your cabinets to the ceiling, you may need a ladder to reach the higher shelves, and you want to make sure these items weigh less so you can keep your hands free to hold the ladder. In the kitchen, it can sometimes be difficult to determine exactly what will stack without actually using it. You may want to decide how to arrange your kitchen cabinet shelves in an evolutionary way, that is, after living with the floor for a while. - shelves up to the ceiling. RESERVE A CALL

Pros: Eliminate the space between the cabinets and the ceiling

In kitchen designs with cabinets that do not extend the full height of the ceiling, there is "dead space" which can be unsightly and collect dust. Disadvantage: Reaching Upper Shelves

The downside of having floor-to-ceiling cabinets is that unless you have very low ceilings or are extremely tall, you'll probably need to use a stepladder to get to the higher shelves. Cons: Making the kitchen feel cramped

If you have a small-sized kitchen that already seems cluttered, floor-to-ceiling kitchen cabinets could make it even smaller. In this case, keeping a small open space between the cabinets and the ceiling could be one of the best ways to add some space to your kitchen, by providing an open concept kitchen design.
